What began as a shared love for popcorn has grown into a flavorful, community-loved business on North Carolina’s Hatteras Island. Coastal Crunch Kettle Corn, founded in 2023 by husband-and-wife duo Matthew and Cheryl Altman, is quickly becoming a local favorite – one popped kernel at a time.
Located in the village of Frisco, on Hatteras Island on the OBX of North Carolina, Coastal Crunch Kettle Corn is known for its delicious, small-batch kettle corn made fresh on-site at local markets and events. With Matthew at the kettle and Cheryl at the stand, the couple has created a dynamic operation that draws loyal customers from both the local community and the many visitors who vacation on the Outer Banks.
“We just love popcorn,” says Cheryl. “And we were thrilled to find out that a lot of people here love kettle corn as much as we do.”
Since launching, the Altmans have developed 31 approved kettle corn flavors, with a rotating selection featured at each market. While they always offer their Classic sweet and salty kettle corn and their best-selling Caramel Corn, two additional fun or seasonal flavors are featured at each event – ensuring there’s always something new to try. Select varieties are made without added sugar, and all products are gluten-free and nut-free, making them a worry-free snack for a wide range of customers.
